The 2008 financial melt-down caught many income investors over-allocated in financial stocks. There was a false sense of security because stocks like Bank of America (BAC), Citigroup (C), Wells Fargo (WFC), and others, were large blue-chip stocks with a long string of consecutive dividend increases. Though they were deemed too big to fail, there weren't too big to cut their dividends, and they did. Many dividend investors learned the importance of sector allocation the hard way.Financials, Consumer Goods and Health Care offer a multitude of excellent dividend companies. So much so, I struggle to keep my allocation below the 10% level that I limit sectors to. The Energy sector is one that I have studied for some time trying to find a worthy stock to buy. I may have finally found one...
