When that happens you have to step back and remember what is really important in your life. For me it is my family and ensuring they have a secure future.
Also, it doesn't hurt to hear words of encouragement that you are making a difference in someone's life. Below is an unsolicited email I received from a D4L-Premium Services subscriber (used with his permission):
D4L,Thanks Todd_2036 for taking the time to write! A true measure of success is making a positive impact in other peoples' lives.
I've been reading your articles for some time, and started subscribing to your Premium Content nearly a year ago. Your website and articles have really refreshed my belief in the stock market as a source of income.
Prior to that, I "missed" quite a few years in the stock market because I was burned out and humbled by my total lack of strategy in investing...I cashed out of almost everything, and parked my money in money markets and CD's. I had tried a number of "strategies" in the past, but nothing suited me.
When I got out of college, I tried listening to some of the "old guys" at work…no luck at all. Then I tried subscribing to Barron's and Value Line reports…no help there. I watched CNBC, but couldn't figure out which of the two opposing experts was right…more confusing than helpful. And for a while, I tried listening to Jim Cramer and some "buddies" to figure out the hot stock of the week…my results were notably worse than gambling in Las Vegas.
Finally, I came upon your articles on Seeking Alpha, and they really struck a chord with me. Your technical analyses are not based on emotions or hunches, you're not dependent on complex option strategies, and you're not trying to make a profit every single day. Instead, your method, and that of many dividend-growth investors, is long-term, steady, predictable, and thankfully, presents a winning strategy.
In one of your articles, you said if you had started doing this in your 20's or 30's, your success would be multiples of where you are now. Many folks replied with similar comments, with quite a few already in their 50's and 60's, hoping to retire in just a few years.
My screen name is Todd_2036 because that's the latest year I hope to retire (youngest child will be a few years out of college). I have been putting your strategies into place for some time now, and things are working well. I am receiving dividends on a regular basis in several accounts, and it feels great! And I have the 20+ year time frame to make it work for my eventual retirement.
I want to thank you for the work that you do, and the strategy you have given me for the rest of my days. Keep up the great articles and website…and please know that your efforts are sincerely appreciated.
