2013 Investing Goals

My goals were originally defined in this December 1, 2007 Investing Goals post and last updated in my 2012 Investing Goals. Like last year, I will exceed my 2012 goal of $20,500 in annualized dividend income. Looking at my long-rang goals, I am still on track to reach my 2017 goal of $30,000 and based on my latest model, I could reach it as early as 2014. The 2027 goal of $110,000 is not as clear. My model now indicates I could surpass it in 2024.

I enjoy reading them and the logic behind the picks. As a long-term buy and hold investor, generally most aren't useful for me; nevertheless, I find them entertaining and sometimes there is a gem to be found. Here are some picks for 2013...

Dividend Investors Should Focus On Stocks, Not The Market

The election may be settled, but investors fears are not. After Obama was elected, the market plunged on worries of the looming Fiscal Cliff and European concerns. Budget negotiations began on Capitol Hill, optimism returned and the market responded. Is it a stock market, or a yo-yo? Looking at this CNN Money chart might lead you to believe that "yo-yo" is the more appropriate term:
